Introducing Mezcal Espadín
A spirit born from volcanic soil and centuries of knowledge. Our Mezcal Espadin is crafted using 100% espadin agave, roasted in traditional earthen pits and distilled in small batches; each bottle a labor of love from our family to yours.
Rich, smoky, and complex with notes of roasted agave and citrus zest. Best enjoyed neat, with a slice of orange and sal de gusano.

Discover Our Process

Agave
We cultivate and harvest our own agave, ensuring every bottle begins with care from seed to spirit. Each of our agave plants are chosen by hand, selecting only those that have grown for 7–10 years. Our jimadores use traditional tools passed down through generations to harvest the precious piñas at peak ripeness.

Cooking
The agave hearts are slow-roasted in earthen pit ovens using a covered roasting method that ensures consistent heat while preserving traditional character for 3–5 days. This ancient cooking method imparts the signature smoky complexity that defines true artisanal mezcal.

Crushing
Once roasted, the agave is crushed using a mechanical mill, a deliberate choice that ensures optimal extraction while keeping the integrity of the plant, releasing the sweet, smoky juice. This method preserves the fibers and deepens the flavor profile, combining craftsmanship with controlled precision.

Fermentation
The crushed agave and its juices are placed in open wooden vats/tinas where wild, ambient yeasts transform the sugars into alcohol over several days; a natural, unpredictable process that gives each batch its unique character.

Distillation
The fermented mash is double-distilled in small copper pot stills, a meticulous process our family has refined over generations. Each batch is carefully monitored to ensure purity, balance, and the truest expression of our terroir.

About Montelucas
Montelucas was born from a dream that began in the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Our father grew up walking these lands each day, carrying a vision of building something greater for his future. With perseverance and faith, he built a life alongside our mother, forming a family of seven children, each one represented by the clouds that rest above our fields in our logo.
At the heart of our story is the belief that no dream is built alone. Just as the land requires balance, so does life. Our father's strength and mothers' presence stand as a reflection of unity, where dedication and support come together to create something lasting, shown at the center of our logo. They represent partnership, the strength of two people working side by side to build something meaningful.
It is a tribute not only to our families, but to all loved ones who grow, support, and create together.
Montelucas is rooted in that belief: that legacy is built through unity, hard work, and shared purpose; both in life and in every bottle we create.
